Two-day class:  Learn the Foundation for Safe Oncology Massage and earn 12 CEUs: 

The ultimate goal of this class is to impart the knowledge and skills so that you will have the confidence to work comfortably and safely with clients who currently have cancer and/or a history of cancer.

As an LMT, it is our ethical responsibility to gain the proper training so that…

(1) No harm comes from the massage therapy work we do.

(2) Each client receives safe, effective, and appropriate massage, at each step of their journey.

This Class is specially designed to meet the requirements for Texas Massage Therapists. 
It is a 12-CEU Class, taught on two consecutive 6-Hour training days.

According to the latest statistics, approx. 1 in 2 women & 1 in 3 men in the US will have some type of cancer within their lifetime. As LMTs, we ARE working with clients who have a history, are currently in cancer treatment, or will have a cancer diagnosis at some point in their lives.

The goals of this class are to share the needed skills, knowledge, and tools to "First, do no harm". Not long ago many massage schools taught that massage was dangerous for anyone diagnosed with cancer. We now are assured that massage can be a safe, effective, and wonderful support for this special group of clients. But to offer safe, effective massage to them we do need some knowledge and training. 

In this class, you will learn about the risks (observable & hidden) that exist for oncology clients. Some risks are disease-related (tumors, ascites, bone metastases, DVT). Some risks involve the consequences of cancer treatments (surgery, radiation, chemotherapy). Some relate to general symptoms such as nausea, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and pain. After this training, you will be able to address these risks safely and confidently.

In this class, you will learn: 

1.    Four (4) specific tools for making appropriate massage adjustments for your clients with cancer and/or a history of cancer.

2.    What massage elements can and should be adjusted, and when to do so.

3.    Principles relating to safe massage-session design.

4.    Specific Risks relating to Cancer and Cancer treatments.

5.    We will also address the question, “Are there possible risks to the LMT that could result from working with clients in active treatment for cancer? 

This class will give you a foundation and confidence to work with oncology clients, who can find much benefit and comfort from massage! There will be ample time for hands-on practice of techniques described in the content of this class. The principles taught in this class also apply to safe-session design for other medical conditions as well, which is a nice bonus!
